Re: Estimating Software

Hello tingborgy, there are relatively many estimator software used in the industry. You can select one which best fit to your company. In no particular order, the following is an exhausted list:

Estimation however is more on case to case basis. Software are there for some predefined and repetitive tasks. If you are in a job that requires you to do the estimate, I suggest not to look for the software first, but ask them the databank of all their previous estimates: look for materials, man-hours, supply, labor circumstances and many other factors.

Microsoft Excel is a very good software to use in estimation as it will bring out the best in you. Your carefulness in storing data and your ability in time estimate will be greatly enhanced for you will solely rely on your own ability. Please do not mistaken me, I do not discourage you to use software estimates, they are excellent for the job. I just want to emphasize that estimate was done by a particular person at particular time in a particular project, it will always vary at any given time, person, and project. Hope I was able to gave you some useful points. Welcome to EF.

Re: Estimating Software

right now we are using Excel as the primary tool in our estimates... but as months and years passed, we've noticed the expansiveness of the past data (like manhours, equipment hours, price trends, etc...) we need to sift through to get the most accurate, thus reliable, estimates... our estimating process have also become much longer with additional checking due to issues that can arise.. on top of these, we've been receiving more requests for quotations (especially from overseas) and even shorter deadlines (and fewer estimators)... wheeewww... :)

thanx for the recommendations and i hope we can find one that will best suit us...

Hello tingborgy, yes that is the great disadvantage of MS Excel. It will cripple you in large database records. Sorry, but I thought you're a beginner that's why I recommend Excel to you, but Excel as I can see don't fit to you. Good luck for your search, I hope you can find one that will simplify your task.

Re: Estimating Software

Hi Guys,

Just new here. We are currently using Planswift digital estimating software. We are a QS company and we do not estimate using the conventional paper and scale method anymore. With Planswift, everything is digitized from PDF, Autocad, JPeg or image file then exported to MS Excel for finalization of cost.

Quick, accurate and easy. It comes with a 14 day free trial. I posted a link below so that you can start using your free 14 days trial.

And guess what, it comes with free training. Call us at 659 3326 for more details.

Regards

I did not hear any software that do both estimate and CPM but this is interesting. If anybody hear it please give us a name, a link is much better.

I know some names in doing CPM: Microsoft Project, ProChain Solutions, Scitor PS Suite, Primavera, and SuperProject.

Microsoft Project offers familiar environment as like MS Office products, it suitable in many small and large scale projects. Primavera is popular in infrastructure projects, many project engineers are familiar with the software. ProChain Solution comes with outstanding costumer support, it is used by several Fortune 500 companies. Scitor PS Suite is flexible in switching from traditional to CPM method of running a project.
