Hello, I am a MET student, I want to ask which CAD software is widely used in the industry. I have access to both softwares in our school laboratory. I just want to ask which software should I go.

Hello Guest, welcome to Engineering Forums. First of all, let me invite you to register to this site. I don't know what MET means, is that a school or a course? AutoCAD or SolidWorks? I am an AutoCAD user and I will highly recommend it. I used SolidWorks before but that was 5 years ago in Windows 98 environment.

To MET student.

There is a version of AutoCAD called AutoCAD Mechanical. It is focused on Mechanical Design and with tons of standard mechanical parts. It will surely accelerate your work in mechanical design.

I heard that SolidWorks is very good in 3D design but I have no firsthand experience with the software. If you have access to both softwares, why not try the two and select one which is more comfortable to you. If you are more concerned in which of the two is widely used in the industry, you can ask your MET professor for that.

I am Ted from CR4 forums of GlobalSpec. SolidWorks is excellent in pipe design. I tried both softwares. I found SolidWorks very easy and powerful when it comes to pipe layout, especially in 3D.

Hi Ted, I am also a member of CR4 under the username RTFVerterra. I like CR4 and much more of GlobalSpec. I am more of a reader than a contributor though. Thanks for dropping by. Allow me to invite you to join Engineering Forums, you can register to us if you don't mind.

i think AUTOCAD is far better than that of the Solidworks , but i am sure AUTOCAD will be costlier than solidworks as it is the happening thing
